Avandia Related To Increased Heart Attack Risk

On May 21, 2007 the FDA released a warning concerning the type 2 diabetes drug Avandia. The FDA warned that clinical trials revealed patients using Avandia have shown an increased risk for heart attack and heart-related deaths. The FDA went on to warn that Avandia patients using Avandia for a short period, 6 months or less, may increase their risk of heart attack and other heart related events by 30-40 percent.

If you or someone you know experienced a heart attack or other heart related problems while taking Avandia, contact an attorney immediately. You may be able to take legal action against the manufacturer of Avandia, GlaxoSmithKline.

Good Samaritan’s Death Leads To Malpractice Case

A medical malpractice lawsuit was brought against Overland Park Regional Medical Center after Jonathan U died in the hospital two years ago. Jonathan U was brought to the hospital after he was running down a purse snatcher. The purse snatcher was in a car at the time and swerved causing U’s injuries.

Chicago Woman Struck And Killed By Truck

Raisa Gilevaja was walking across Armitage Avenue at Damen in Chicago when she was struck and killed by a concrete mixing truck. Gilevaja, who was 75, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. She was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived.

The truck driver was cited at the scene for failure to exercise due care while a pedestrian was in the roadway. The truck driver and the company he works for may face a lawsuit in the future for the wrongful death of Raisa Gilevaja.

Car Accident Kills UIC Professor And His Wife

Inder “Paul” Batra and his wife Uma were the victims of a reckless car accident in California this past week. The couple was walking near their San Jose home when a car speeding around a turn at 80 miles per hour crashed into the couple and killed them. The driver and passenger of the car were also killed in the accident. It appears the driver lost control of the car when he was driving around the curve that has a speed limit of 35 miles per hour.

Deerfield, Illinois Crash Claims One Teens Life

A collision between two cars of teenagers on Tuesday claimed the life of Gina Bronge. Gina, only 15 years old, was a passenger in a 2002 Jeep Wrangler that collided with a Hyundai Tiburan at the intersection of Waukegan and Kates roads in Deerfield, Illinois. Police have not issued any citations in the accident and do not believe alcohol or drugs played a roll in the collision.

Chicago Car Crash Kills One

A car accident on Chicago’s Northwest Side has claimed the life of one passenger. Darlene Reyes was only fifteen years old when she became a victim of a deadly car crash. She was the passenger in a car that had pulled out into cross-traffic in an attempt to make a left turn. While the car was in traffic another car going straight smashed into the passenger side of the car Reyes was in. She was pronounced dead two days after the accident.

The driver of the car that Darlene Reyes was in was cited for two violations. The Reyes family may be able to recover for the wrongful death of Darlene and should contact an attorney immediately.

FDA Recalls Hot Dog Chili Sauce and Dog Food After Botulism Scare

On July 18, 2007 the FDA recalled several brands of hot dog chili sauce after discovering it may be contaminated with botulism. On July 21, 2007, the FDA updated its recall to include additional brands as well as some dog food. The list contains five brands of Castleberry sauce, one Kroger brand of sauce, one Meijer brand of sauce, one Food Lion brand of sauce, one Bloom brand of sauce and one Thrifty Maid brand of sauce. The recall also includes the following dog foods: Irish Stew with Beef Dog Food, Chinese Take Out with Sauce with Vegetable and Chicken Dog Food, Southern Style Dumplings with Gravy with Chicken and Vegetables Dog Food and Hobo Chili with Chicken Pasta Dog Food. Any cans, regardless of the “best by” date should be discarded immediately.

Botulism is a serious illness and can lead to death. Symptoms of botulism include the following:

Double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness that moves progressively down the body, affecting the shoulders first then descending to the upper arms, lower arms, thighs, calves, etc. Botulism poisoning can also cause paralysis of the breathing muscles which can result in death unless assistance with breathing (mechanical ventilation) is provided.

Taste of Chicago Salmonella Cases Filed

The first salmonella cases have been filed against Pars Cove restaurant after over 600 people became ill at this years Taste of Chicago. Health officials believe the salmonella is linked to food that was served at the Pars Cove booth during the festival. Approximately a dozen people were hospitalized after falling ill.

Car Crashes Into Panera In Chicago Suburb

A car crashed into the Panera Bread Store located at 1199 Wilmette Avenue in Wilmette, Illinois on Thursday afternoon. The crash resulted in ten people being transported to local hospitals. Three of the victims were believed to have critical injuries. The car was being driven by an older woman when it crashed into the restaurant and pinned one girl under the car and another under the wheel.

Van Causes Accident At Chicago Loop Restaurant

A van struck two pedestrians Monday morning when it ran onto the sidewalk in front of the Cosi restaurant at 230 W. Washington Street. The van also struck a garbage can which went through the window of the restaurant. The accident injured four people, including the driver of the van. All four were taken to the hospital. At least one person was in critical condition.
