Chicago ACTOS® Injury and Defective Drug Lawyer Gary D. McCallister & Associates, LLC
Millions of Americans suffer from type 2 diabetes, in which the body does not produce enough insulin to process the sugars it takes in. To combat this disease, in recent years the Food and Drug Administration approved ACTOS®. This drug works by lowering what is called insulin resistance. In essence, ACTOS® enables the body to use the insulin it produces more efficiently. However, the drug has recently come under scrutiny for having potentially dangerous, and even fatal, side effects. If you or a loved one in the Chicago area has taken ACTOS® and suffered an injury as a result, contact defective drug lawyer Gary D. McCallister today to find out whether you are eligible for compensation.
ACTOS® Side Effects
As with Avandia®, the use of ACTOS® has been linked to multiple harmful side effects, most notably liver damage and congestive heart failure. The liver damage is caused by a condition known as hepatitis, or inflammation of the liver, which ACTOS® and other drugs in its class have been shown to cause in some patients. ACTOS® can also cause an elevation in liver enzyme levels, which, coupled with hepatitis, can lead to liver failure. The drug has also been linked to symptoms of congestive heart failure, including fluid retention (edema) and rapid weight gain. Those already showing symptoms of heart problems may find their symptoms aggravated and accelerated as well. Though the incidence of these deadly side effects is relatively low, many people taking ACTOS® have suffered significant damage to their bodies.
Other side effects include swelling of the lower legs, face, and feet, and also inflammation of the sinuses. Some patients have also reported muscle pain and tightness in the chest. In the Chicago area, defective drug and ACTOS® injury lawyers at Gary D. McCallister & Associates, LLC are investigating these cases, and they have the experience necessary to help clients succeed.
