Chicago, Illinois Product Liability Litigation – Medtronic Recall Attorneys

At Gary D. McCallister & Associates, LLC, we specialize in helping victims of personal injury obtain compensation for their injuries. If you or someone you love has been injured by a defective or dangerous product, our Illinois Medtronic recall and product liability attorney team can help. Medtronic Sprint Fidelis defibrillator leads were recalled in October 2007 after five patients’ deaths were linked to the devices. Defibrillator leads deliver life-saving shocks to the heart if they detect abnormal heart rhythms. However, unnecessary shocks or a failure to deliver shocks altogether can result in severe injury and wrongful death to patients. If you have this product implanted in your body or someone you love has died because of it, a lawyer from our firm may be able to help you obtain compensation for your medical bills and other expenses.

Recalled Medtronic Defibrillator Leads

Medtronic, Inc. recalled the following faulty Sprint Fidelis defibrillator leads on October 15, 2007 after they found that the leads could fracture and cause serious injuries and wrongful death to patients:

  • Sprint Fidelis 6930
  • Sprint Fidelis 6931
  • Sprint Fidelis 6948
  • Sprint Fidelis 6949

If you or someone you love has been affected by this recall, after consulting with a medical professional about replacement options, contact our Illinois Medtronic recall attorneys to discuss the possibility of bringing a lawsuit against Medtronic, Inc.

Risks Associated with Medtronic Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Leads

Medtronic, Inc.’s Spirit Fidelis Model Nos. 6930, 6931, 6948, and 6949 defibrillator leads can malfunction by either delivering a painful shock to the heart when it is not needed or failing to deliver a life-saving shock when heart rhythms become abnormal. When a defibrillator lead malfunctions, it can cause heart attack, cardiac arrest, and, in severe cases, wrongful death.

There are also risks associated with the surgery needed to remove a faulty Medtronic Sprint Fidelis defibrillator lead. You should consult your doctor about the right replacement option for you, which may involve replacing the Medtronic defibrillator lead with a pacemaker or other type of defibrillator or replacing the Sprint Fidelis lead wire that connects the lead to your heart.
