Remicade® Side Effects

The disorders that Remicade® was designed to treat, including rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, psoriatic arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and ankylosing spondylitis, are caused by the body’s immune system attacking healthy tissues. By inhibiting the action of a specific protein in the immune system, Remicade® can stop the damage that the immune system is causing. However, in some cases the drug may have an unintended adverse effect on the immune system, making the patient extremely susceptible to other serious diseases. Some of these diseases have greatly reduced patients’ quality of life and at times have proved fatal. Remicade® has also been shown to reactivate the hepatitis B virus in those who carry it, though the reason for this is not known.
